Milis Chalet – Rental Villa in Ylläs

Taiga cottage expanded into Milis Chalet rental villa 

The Brunner family has roots in Switzerland and Finland. The family had wonderful memories of their holidays in Ylläs at PolarHouse's Taiga rental cottage. As a tribute to his parents, Michael decided to build a traditional log cabin on Lake Ylläsjärvi where families and friends could come together. In his view, that is what truly matters in life.

"Because of the wonderful memories we had in the cozy rental cabin, we contacted PolarHouse. The collaboration with Jarkko Rönkkö was smooth and straightforward from the very beginning. He listened to our ideas and worked patiently to implement everything. PolarHouse stood out from other companies – some did not respond at all, responded too late, or were simply not interested in us," Michael says.

The intention was to build a spacious, modern, and comfortable log cabin primarily for rental use. A plot was found in Ylläsjärvi, and PolarHouse's Taiga model was chosen as the basis for holiday home suitable for 10–15 people.

"Large cottages like this are rare on the rental market in Ylläs. The biggest Taiga model is 130 m2, but PolarHouse's design service modified the model to 153 m2. The floor plan was carefully tailored to the client's wishes. To help us choose the right model, PolarHouse even simulated different building types and sizes, including semi-detached option."

Sustainable, practical, stylish

Michael had a clear vision of the cottage´s features but received additional guidance from a rental agency. 

"They told me that holidaymakers values space, practicality, and appearance. The house has five bedrooms, three toilets with showers, and high-quality amenities: charging stations for two electric cars, fibre-optic internet, and remotely controlled heating. We achieved functional and practical spaces for a carefree holiday”, Michaes explains.

Interior design and details were also important to Michael. The interior design was handled by Ikea in Haparanda, and the design concept exceeded expectations. 

"The collaboration with the Ikea designer was fantastic. The interior designer has strong roots in Ylläs and draws inspiration from the Nordic lifestyle, rugged nature, and the unique colors of Lapland. He also selected practical materials suitable for rental use. The high-quality finish is visible, for example, in the stone material used in the shower rooms, which was imported from Switzerland," Michael says.

Perfect villa for rental use

The construction project progressed according to schedule: the first drawings were made in February 2022, and the house package was delivered in May the following year. The villa was completed by Christmas 2023 and named Milis Chalet after Michael's nickname. The name is short, memorable, and easy to use as a web address.

"Everything went exactly as agreed. The quality was excellent, and PolarHouse delivered on all its promises,"Michael says with satisfaction.

Michael himself only spends a few weeks per year at the cottage, but the booking situation is excellent and the utilization rate high. Renting is easy through a local rental company and direct sales. Families and groups from Finland and abroad stay at the cottage.

"We are happy when our guests are happy!"
