Tourism Development Projects in Lapland: Innovations by Polar House

Three tourism projects we’ve had the pleasure of being part of

Tourism in Lapland is growing. In 2025, 1.1 million passengers travelled through Rovaniemi Airport, and according to Forbes and other sources, more small, high-quality resorts are opening in the region. This growth creates a need for accommodation that can withstand the northern winter and blend into its surroundings.

In addition to detached homes and holiday homes, Polar House helps build tourism destinations. Each project is different, but the starting point is the same as it is for our homes: every building is designed to suit its location and the needs of its users.

Kaamos Lodge, Aavasaksa – Polar House designed and supplied the main building

Kaamos Lodge sits at the summit of Aavasaksa in Ylitornio, surrounded by one of Finland’s designated national landscapes. Polar House supplied the main building for this award-winning resort. Around it, 80 Gammé accommodation units are nestled on the slopes of the hill.

The main building brings the resort’s services together under one roof. It houses the reception and lounge, a 160-seat panoramic restaurant and bar, a meeting room for up to 18 people, and a Sauna & Spa area with indoor and outdoor pools. Inside, warm log panelling covers the walls, while the windows frame views of the surrounding fells.

Levin Lyhty, Levi – Polar House supplied four buildings

Levin Lyhty is a holiday apartment complex comprising four buildings next to Levi’s southern slopes, approximately 400 metres from the South Point ski lift. Polar House supplied buildings A and B in 2024, followed by buildings C and D in 2025.

The apartments offer space for families or groups: a 59 m² apartment, for example, has two bedrooms and sleeps up to six people. Each apartment also has a utility room for maintaining skis and other equipment.

The phased construction required each building to be completed on its own schedule while maintaining a consistent look and feel across the development.

Tahko Lakeside Villas, Tahko – Polar House supplies the thermal log elements

Tahko Lakeside Villas is taking shape at the Tahko resort, opposite the ski slopes. The development comprises 27 buildings and 39 holiday apartments, with a total of 222 beds. Polar House supplies the thermal log elements for the villas. The development is scheduled for completion in 2027.

The buildings will be arranged in four terraced rows on the hillside, giving every apartment views of the ski slopes and Tahkolahti Bay. The apartments range from approximately 60 to 160 m², and every bedroom has its own adjoining toilet.

The same principle, from a home to a holiday village

Polar House’s quality remains the same, whether we’re building a single holiday home or a large-scale tourism development. Through successful large projects, we’ve learned what it takes to bring all the elements together.
